The inescapable smell of sweet barbeque sauce fills the air. The Plum crew stands by, audio equipment in hand and F55 camera poised, ready to capture a family of four at their Menomonie-based barbeque food truck business. A normal day for Plum? Not quite. Then again, this ongoing campaign for Hearst Marketing Resources and WESTconsin Credit Union has been anything but ordinary. It’s given the Plum team yet another opportunity to do what they do best, tell fascinating stories.
It was summer in our hearts… for Milwaukee festivals.
Visit Milwaukee, a tourism organization, approached Plum last summer with a unique challenge of covering twelve individual festivals over the course of several months. They wanted to showcase the very best that these festivals had to offer, but also plant the seed that when thinking festivals, people are thinking Milwaukee.

The Wisconsin Department of Tourism had started an initiative to enhance it’s website TravelWisconsin.com with video. They wanted content that showed real people with real stories about vacationing in Wisconsin. They found a young guy who set and achieved a goal to visit every single Wisconsin state park, trail, and wildlife area in on year. He had some challenges but he made it happen.
Our challenge telling his story was that we had to demonstrate the feeling of him "on the move” while only having time to shoot him visiting two parks in a successive afternoon and morning. We’re always up for a good challenge! While I’d have loved to have followed him to every amazing park in Wisconsin, I think the results were very effective, impactful, and fun.

The people at Brady Corp. really wanted to do something different with this image piece. And we did. We didn’t focus on Brady’s products. We focused on Brady’s people. And those people are all over! We shot in California, Mexico, New York, Belgium, and Milwaukee. The video is a great success. It’s accomplished what it was supposed to. It got people at Brady energized and engaged. We’ve heard wonderful anecdotal reactions to the piece. It’s great knowing we gave Brady just what it needed, when it needed it.

I wanted to quickly give the audience an appreciation for the work done there in an entertaining fashion. It was great fun working with the kids on this shoot…and the dog!”

The easy part of this project? No shortage of great visuals and natural sound opportunities! The challenge was packing 4 days of exciting activities and music and a dozen or so testimonials into one short promotional video. Being Irish myself, I was personally invested in this project and I love the final results. It turned out to be a high energy piece that was attractive, true to the Irish cultural theme and told potential sponsors what they needed to hear…the great value of backing this premiere ethnic festival.
