The Newest Plum Media Faces

New Hires at Plum Media

Get to know 5 new faces who joined Plum Media in the past year

David Overbeck – Livestreaming Producer

David is not only a gifted livestreaming producer, but he also has mad skills in IT networking – which make him indispensable on virtual events. He graduated from Marquette University with a degree in Broadcast & Electronic Communications and Computer Science. Then he collected 11 years of experience with a production company as a video editor.

From there, he landed in the corporate world, working for Kohl's in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. He produced in-person, virtual, and hybrid town hall meetings; as well as brand launches, concerts, fashion shows and many celebrity events.

The best thing about working at Plum Media, according to David, is that "every day is a new and exciting challenge, and I can’t get enough."

Mikaia Jacobs – Editor

Mikaia brings fresh perspectives from the film world, along with global exposure while studying abroad in the UK. She’s a graduate of UW-Milwaukee with a major in Film and a minor in English. During her time at school, she worked as an operations manager at the cinema, furthering her love of film.

While in college, she scored an internship at Plum Media and quickly impressed the staff with her creativity and attention to detail. After graduation, Mikaia filmed and edited videos for many popular YouTube channels, honing her skills amid the ever-changing habits of online viewers.

In 2020, she took advantage of the opportunity to return to Plum and contribute to our staff of five post-production professionals.

Dan Cary – Director of Sales

To say Dan is multi-talented is an understatement. He has 24 years of experience in media production, sales and content distribution. He has been everything from an account executive at a Fortune 50 company, to a partner in a digital content start-up, to a chief operating officer of a Wisconsin-based sports marketing agency. Through it all, he has worked on all facets of media including client services, production, distribution and talent management.

Dan has been recognized by the Milwaukee Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” and regularly lectures at Marquette University on the topics of sports and media.

He is excited to build on his vast experience as we launch “John McGivern’s Main Streets,” a TV series featuring communities from all over the upper Midwest.

Lois Maurer – Producer

Energy and passion drive Lois in creating the kind of content that connects with audiences and wins awards. She most recently worked at Milwaukee PBS with TV personality John McGivern, producing a series that won an Emmy Award and became the most popular, highest-rated show ever produced at the station.

She now brings that program to Plum Media as “John McGivern’s Main Streets,” set to launch in January 2022. During the summer, we don’t see much of her around the office. She and John are on the road, filming in communities in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, and of course, Wisconsin.

Lois is a Marquette University graduate and started off in the video department of Northwestern Mutual. She later worked for a small video production company, freelanced for SC Johnson in Racine, and then started her own production company before going to PBS.

Brad Baker – Livestreaming Producer

Our most recent hire has an exciting background working with some of the top brands in sports – including NFL Network, The Washington Football Team, the University of Georgia, ESPN, Minnesota United, United Soccer Leagues, and Nashville Soccer Club. He’s produced short- and long-form video projects, as well as run live broadcasts and game presentations.

If you want to talk soccer, Brad is your go-to.

Brad graduated from film school at the North Carolina School of the Arts and had a brief stint with the producer of the “Rush Hour” franchise in Los Angeles. He’s now leveraging his live sports experience in video production and live content to infuse that same excitement into our events and livestreams at Plum.
