ABOUT THE VIDEO

25 Million Stitches: One Stitch, One Refugee is a global project curated by artist Jennifer Kim Sohn to raise awareness of the refugee crisis worldwide. A total of 2,300 stitchers from 37 countries and all 50 U.S. states created over 2,200 panels bound together into 407 long banners. The Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts (WMQFA) hosted the exhibition from March 1–July 28, 2024, as the only Midwest venue.

Plum Media worked with WMQFA and Hearst Marketing Resources to create the video, which introduces the project and explains the installation through interviews with Sohn, panel makers, museum staff, and WMQFA’s summer artist-in-residence.

"We couldn't be prouder of our talent here at Plum, and we're thrilled to see their efforts celebrated for this project," stated Eric Conley and Dan Cary, Partners at Plum Media. “José and the team did a fantastic job not only capturing the voices of those featured but also bringing the exhibit itself to life as a central character in the story.”

Plum Media producer Jose Castillo said, “When I saw the exhibit, I knew the fiber panels needed to be a constant presence in every frame. It’s a visual testament to the dedication of so many hands working for change, and our video captures that power.”

Plum Media staff who worked on this project include:

  • Executive Producer: Patrice Nault
  • Producer: José Castillo
  • Videography: Bob Gregory, Jason Klappa
  • Motion Graphics: Kevin Petajan, Olivia Griepentrog
  • Editing: Makaia Jacobs
  • Production Assistants: Bailey Preston, Mikayla Wessel, Caroline Bennett

Plum Media thanks Jennifer Kim Sohn, the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts, and every participant for their trust and partnership in bringing "25 Million Stitches" to a broader audience.

Says Executive Director Melissa Wraalstad: “We are ecstatic that the video won three Chicago/Midwest Emmy® Awards! Thank you to artist Jennifer Kim Sohn for entrusting us with this important and stunning exhibition. We knew it was special, and it's wonderful that the video and awards recognize that!” The video, along with other communication efforts, helped WMQFA triple their attendance.

About the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts

The Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts (WMQFA) is dedicated to creating, preserving, and displaying cultural treasures and educating the public about the artistic, cultural, historic, and social importance of quilts and fiber arts. A primary mission is to teach people of all ages and abilities the time-honored traditions of fiber arts such as quilting, weaving, embroidery and knitting. Our 1850s farmstead setting, located just east of historic downtown Cedarburg, Wisconsin, has allowed us to combine preservation of craft with preservation of historical agriculture buildings, offering a unique setting for enjoying an afternoon, taking a class, attending a lecture, or playing in a farm setting. The WMQFA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) non-profit. For more information go to www.wiquiltmuseum.com. Our address is N50W5050 Portland Rd., Cedarburg, WI 53012.
