October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Liver Awareness Month. More than 1.7 million people are expected to be diagnosed with cancer this year. Many of them will need blood, sometimes daily, while undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Liver transplants are the second most common type of organ transplant. More than 30 units of blood may be needed during a liver transplant.
