Plum Media has moved into its new headquarters in the Menomonee Valley! A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Friday September 8th to celebrate the move. Milwaukee city officials and representatives from the Menomonee Valley Partners joined Rich Schmig, president of Plum Media for the occasion.
Through major improvements to the former Milwaukee Casket Company building at 1418 W. St. Paul Avenue, Plum Media has brought the 1920s neo-Gothic classic back to life while maintaining much of its architectural history. The 20-year-old video and event production company relocated from the Historic Third Ward to the 15,000 square-foot building.
Plum Media’s investment in the Menomonee River Valley is just one of many businesses fueling growth and redevelopment in what was once an industrial neighborhood. Mayor Tom Barrett said, “It’s great to see that Plum Media has chosen to invest in one of Milwaukee’s historic buildings and lay the foundation for a successful future in the city of Milwaukee.”
The newly renovated space maintains some of the original character of the historic building. A walk-in vault is featured in the first-floor kitchen. The Art Deco wrought iron railings on the main staircase were retained and duplicated for a newly built back stairwell. The original office doors were also repurposed. Schmig spent many weekends personally salvaging the wooden baseboards now featured on the floor-to-ceiling wall in the guest entrance. “Plum embraced the opportunity to restore the 1929 vintage two-story brick building,” Schmig said.
The creative space provides Plum with room for an enhanced sound stage, state-of-the-art post-production facilities and live streaming capabilities. Corey Zetts, Executive Director of Menomonee Valley Partners said, “This is an exciting time for Plum Media and the Menomonee Valley. Plum has beautifully renovated this building into a creative space for its growing business, a welcome addition to the valley’s rapidly developing St. Paul Avenue.”
Plum Media is a top video production agency that provides creative brand communications for marketing, training, internal and external communication needs. While based in Milwaukee, the company works on projects throughout the U.S. and around the world. Plum has a staff of 22 employees, with plans to continue growing over the coming years.
